What is a replacement check?

If your refund check was lost, stolen, destroyed or not received and has not been cashed, we can normally provide a replacement within six to eight weeks. If your refund check has been cashed, you will receive a photocopy of the check and a Form 1133, from the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) to initiate a claim.

What is a Current Address?

If your refund check was lost, stolen, destroyed or not received and has not been cashed you may qualify for a replacement check. To correctly process your claim for a replacement check your current address is required. Enter your current address number in the space provided.

What is the Bureau of the Fiscal Service?

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) is an agency within the Treasury Department that issues and maintains records relating to all checks issued by IRS. BFS has the authority to certify second payments to taxpayers who did not receive their refund checks or whose check was lost, stolen or destroyed.

What is a Form 1133 Claim?

A Form 1133 is a claim form issued by the Bureau of the Fiscal Service (BFS) to assist them in the check replacement process. If you receive form 1133, please fill it out and return it to BFS. At this point, using the number provided on the claim form, all questions regarding the status of the replacement check should be directed to BFS.

What is a Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund?

Form 3911 is provided to individuals who do not qualify to request a replacement check through the internet, automated phone system or by contacting a Customer Service Representative. The form must be completed and mailed or faxed to the specified IRS office. If you filed a joint return, both spouses must sign the Form 3911 to certify a claim for a replacement check.

Availability of "Refund Trace"

Refund Trace, is a feature available to some taxpayers whose refund may have been lost, stolen, destroyed, or just hasn't been received. It is not available during the following times:
